Projects - SEAMate™

The SEAMate product provides fluid analysis using X-Ray fluorescence technology developed by Innov-X Systems to accurately provide none-destructive fluid elemental analysis primarily for Fuels, Lubricants and other Oil related liquids found on marine vessels and rigs.


Rivertek Industrial has developed the user experience for this product by providing a distributed flexible system allowing an HMI focused on the type of user. In addition we are responsible for the design of a hand held Bar Code Reader device that allows samples to be recorded accurately by simply using the location and bottle Bar Codes.

The SEAMate HMI has been designed around the type of user that has logged into the system, the entire product runs within an industrial PC running Windows XP Embedded with a touch screen.


The requirements of the HMI are as follows:


  1. Record samples bottle and contents ready for testing at a later date.

  2. Present a bottle to the system and Test.

  3. Clearly Display Test Result and Compare to Fluid Specification.

  4. Store All Test Data in a Database.

  5. Allow Vessel/Site Data to be entered.

  6. Provide Basic Trending Analysis.

  7. Provide Basic Alarm system warning of fluids that present a possible risk to the vessel normal operation.

In addition to providing a standard HMI we also had to provide support for touch screen and language entry using the touch screen including Chinese.

SEAMate™ Data Collection Bar Code Reader

To Facilitate the collection of sample data, a data collection Bar Code Reader is used to provide simple point and collection of samples from around the vessel or other site.


The Bar Code Reader software can store up to 10,000 samples and then automatically synchronizes the new samples with the SEAMate XRF device using a wireless connection.


The Bar Code Reader uses a touch screen for entry and a numeric keypad (similar in operation to a mobile phone) for data entry, for normal entry only a finger on the touch screen and a location and sample bottle Bar Code is necessary.


The software is written in Java using the IBM J9 JVM.
